WeMadeFOX GameGune Mexico 2009

According to pcgames.com.cn, WeMade FOX will be removing their Counter-Strike 1.6 squad (formerly e-STRO) by the end of the year.  With the break of such news, we have put together a playbook of one of the best teams in the world on a map where few can match such a playstyle, de_dust2.  The teams aggressive CT tactics can seem almost random, but with precision timing and perfect execution it's hard to call it anything short of amazing.

UPDATE:  As of 1/4/10 it is reported that the WeMadeFox organization has signed the former e-STRO lineup until 2011.

GameGune Mexico 2009 showed us a great display of talent from several continents battling it out for a piece of the prize money. EG showed their strength as the American powerhouse team at the tournament, claiming first place. WeMade FOX took second and displayed a great deal of raw talent and ambition. In this article, I chose to analyze WeMade FOX’s de_dust2 setups and strategies. The match that I gathered these from was the lower bracket finals match against Turmoil. WeMade FOX was able to take 10 rounds as Counter-Terrorist, and was able to neutralize most of everything that Turmoil threw at them.

CT pistol:
On pistol round, WeMade FOX sent four of their team long A, and put one player at the back of platform at the B site. Expecting a long A attack, they patiently waited until a Terrorist was spotted. He was quickly disposed of by termi, while 2 of his teammates naded into the tunnel. Although no other Turmoil members were there to fire back, WeMade FOX began to fall back. After a couple seconds, three of the members then ran back to long A and pushed all the way out. They took out two more members of Turmoil, while only losing one of their own.

Why this strat worked: Lots of patience on WeMade FOX’s part allowed them to easily get the first kill and swing the round in their favor. By playing together and using numbers as their strength, Turmoil had little chance to win this pistol round.

Anti-eco:
Besides solo who basically seems to float around and do whatever he feels, WeMade FOX keeps it simple and plays aggressively in close places (i.e. catwalk) and passively in distances (i.e. long A). They make sure to play together so they don’t get caught alone, and don’t give Turmoil any free kills.

Gun rounds:
WeMade FOX plays very much like their anti-eco rounds. They essentially leave glow in B, who plays passively and essentially does everything he can to stay alive and kill as many players as he can.
However, the other four players are a very different story. Depending on the round, you could find 4 long A, 3 cat, or 3 in middle.

The first gun round he played aggressively at middle/lower B, but was unable to get a frag due to several pre-flashes thrown by Turmoil. However, with quick plays by lsw and bail, WeMade FOX was able to completely clinch the round and flip the numbers back in their favor.

Lsw, who usually plays aggressive angles at long A, quickly pushed out once solo died, and was able to catch an enemy with his back turned.

As lsw was pushing out long A, bail decided to make a play on his own. He flashed over this wall twice and ran off catwalk to frag the Turmoil players lower B. In combination with the play by lsw, bail is able to almost guarantee the win for his team.

Why this worked: Turmoil never had anyone watching for the long A push when it came to later in the round. lsw was able to push out a couple times during the half, and always got at least one kill doing this.
When he wasn’t playing aggressively or pushing, lsw played simple and effective angles. He sometimes got boosted by a teammate.

This is another highly effective setup. Although WeMadeFOX only did this one round, it is a simple setup that can be useful throughout an entire half. One player is placed in pit, spotting, nading, and delaying the attack. Once the attack begins, a teammate flashes in front of the pit ledge and allows his teammate to peek back up and try to get another frag.

Solo plays with an awp the entire half, and rotates his position around depending on the strat. Sometimes he gets quick-boosted catwalk, SS 27, and awps down catwalk after boosting his teammate onto the box. Other times he will awp long A, while lsw is boosted on the CT spawn box. Normally, he will play middle from wherever he chooses, and is quick to rotate to A if an attack is imminent.

When it comes to catwalk, bail and termi play very aggressive, basic setups. Typically, one will spot while the other counter-flashes.

This setup involves a direct, aggressive angle by bail with termi bouncing his flash off the wall and in front of the box that bail is playing against.

This is another basic setup in which one player spots, and the other flashes over the double-box. Both players then aggressively retake cat while the other team is blinded.
Other than that, bail and termi do double-stacks:

One of the most unique strats that most teams don’t regularly take advantage of is triple-nading the back of catwalk. WeMade FOX does it 2-3 times during the half.

Pro tip: The reason why triple-nading the back of catwalk is such an effective strat is more mental than practical. However, many teams send at least 2 players towards the back of catwalk on their default strat. By nading catwalk, it keeps them on their toes. They are already damaged before committing to an area of the map, and it will frustrate them as they are unable to do anything to counter this. This should be done at MOST 4 times per half. If the other team predicts when you are doing this, they will easily be able to counter it by nading or spamming you.
